Thangassery Beach, located 5 km from Kollam town, is a seaside village of historic importance. Besides the 144-feet high Thangaserry Lighthouse which is open to visitors every day, there are ruins of an old Portuguese Fort and churches built in the 18th century near the beach.
Thangasseri Lighthouse on the seashore is used for guiding lost fishermen and navigators in the sea. It was built in the year 1902. Thangasseri Lighthouse is open for public visits from 5.30-7.30 pm. Thangasseri Fort is another major tourist attraction. It has the ruins of a few Portuguese and Dutch Forts of the bygone ages.
